    The Debate on the Usefulness of Performance Appraisals

    Performance appraisals are a routine practice in many organizations; however, there is pronounced disagreement about their effectiveness for managing human resources. Dr. Stephen Wagner will examine the potential problems with performance appraisals, as well as challenges with eliminating performance appraisals. Research findings on tactics intended to improve the performance appraisal process will also be explored.

    Stephen Wagner received his Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Northern Illinois University. Prior to joining the faculty of the College of Business at Governor's State University in 2011, he held HR positions in corporate and public sector settings (Sears, Roebuck & Co., Grand Rapids Community College) and he was director of the Industrial/Organizational Psychology graduate programs at Central Michigan University. He has wide-ranging professional knowledge and skills related to Human Resource Management, including:
